The Judging Process

Once again, in 2011 the judging process will be very similar to the successful process used last year. It comprises a desk-top business study by staff from the Waikato University School of Management, based on the completed entry form each business has submitted.

Judging and awards are completed solely on the basis of the information submitted by entrants. The process relies on the integrity of entrants to provide complete and honest appraisals of their business management systems.

However, the judges reserve the right to visit entrants or finalists to clarify any further details or confirm their conclusions.

A special thanks to Waikato University School of Management for their facilitation of the judging process and ongoing support.

Please note: entrants can have total confidence in the confidentiality of this process. The Awards are processed by the Awards Co-ordinator, Chamber staff and judges.

Judges' scores for each section will be available to entrants only on return of the entry form to each entrant– no information will be disclosed to individuals or other organisations other than the judges and Awards Co-ordinator. Detailed feedback from judges is not generally available, however the Chamber can assist those seeking business advice, mentoring or other consultancy services.

Hints and tips: Please type your entry, on one side of A4 paper, starting a new page for each section. Make your submission clear and concise, using facts and statistics to illustrate your narrative. Tables, figures and graphs are encouraged wherever possible. Each section of your submission should be within the specified page limit for text however charts and graphs are permitted in addition to this limit. Non-completion of any section in your entry will lessen the overall scoring potential of your submission and therefore the chances of making it through to be a finalist.

Quality is more important than quantity and content more important than presentation. While a well presented submission is expected, neither expensive printing and binding, nor novelty presentation of entries is sought. The Business Excellence Awards are not judged on the basis of the creativity of entry presentation.
