Waipa Networks business awards Launch hits record numbers

The Waipa Networks Business Awards 2018 launch event started with a bang, securing record attendance and entrants.

The 2018 Waipa Networks Business Awards (the Awards) officially launched on 5 April at Mystery Creek Events Centre Headquarters and saw record attendance from the Waipa and Raglan business communities.
The event, hosted by the Cambridge, Te Awamutu and Raglan Chambers of Commerce marked the opening of entries for the 2018 Awards. The relaxed, informative launch evening provided potential entrants the opportunity to discover more about the Awards, the process and some tangible positive outcomes.


With Dan McIntyre playing acoustically and Montana catering the event, it was a great way to mark the occasion as a business community.


Attendee Chantelle Good, Business Development Manager and Owner of The Good PA commented, “The launch event this year was just awesome with good networking opportunities and some great speakers providing information on the awards and the process.”
Just shy of 100 people attended the event, with a record number of 26 local businesses committing to enter this year’s awards on the night, with more subsequently expressing interest.  This is an excellent response.


Attendees at the launch heard from sponsors, the Head Judge and a number of previous winners.  The message was clear – there is much to be gained by entering the Awards and businesses are guaranteed to come out of it with tangible benefits whether they finish as winners or not. 
Waipa District Council were in attendance as a sponsor of two awards categories and Steve Tritt, Business Development Manager for Waipa District Council commented, “The Waipa Network Business Awards are a launching pad not only for finalists and winners, but for any business that makes the effort to enter.
 
Even attending the Gala Awards dinner is very motivating for those in the business community, who celebrate with their colleagues across Waipa and Raglan.
 
Finalists all say that the entry and judging process focuses attention on their business processes, strategy and the future.”
 
An even more successful evening was had for two lucky attendees: prospective entrants David Branch (Cambridge Raceway) and Amanda Hema (The Stakeholder Agency), who took home respectively an Air New Zealand travel voucher and Raglan Rock glowworm canyon experience.
Tania Witheford, Cambridge Chamber of Commerce said, “The Awards encourage businesses to review, reflect and acknowledge achievements and milestones and gives an opportunity to celebrate the journey.  Everyone who has entered the Awards, been a finalist or a winner, speaks of the incredible learnings they have taken from the experience and can articulate how this added value to their business, not to mention the fun and enjoyment on the night of the Awards”.


There are categories to suit all businesses and for-purpose organisations, as well as opportunities to nominate individuals for their contribution to a business and/or the local business community.
“It’s an opportunity to sit on the veranda for a moment and take stock of your business and reflect,” said Howard Davey, Head Judge, University of Waikato Management School.
